Join our unforgettable journey through the enchanting landscapes and vibrant culture of Bali. In June 2023, my boyfriend and I embarked on a month-long adventure across Indonesia, exploring Bali, Lombok, and the Komodo Islands. After Ubud we decided to travel for 3 hours by Gojek to do an amazing activity in Lovina…

We were eager to swim with dolphins! At first, we hesitated for a long time about whether we should do this or not. We hadn’t booked it in advance. We were afraid it might turn into a tourist attraction where boats would all chase after the dolphins. Friends of ours had also been to Lovina to swim with dolphins, but they had a guide they knew from their internship when they were there. He left after sunrise, which is better for the well-being of the dolphins, and went to search for groups of dolphins himself. Whereas most guides follow each other and create a chain of boats around the dolphins, some even brought food with them, our guide told us. So it gave us a good feeling to go with this guide. He even said he couldn’t guarantee if we would really see dolphins because he really searches for them himself. We took this risk.

We saw like 50 dolphins!

We booked the private tour because he recommended it for couples, so you could decide for yourself when you wanted to return and you had more time to hang on to the boat. We paid 800K IDR, which equals 46 euros (this was for 2 people). I booked via Insta: northcoastdolphintour. The guide was very nice and even brought food for us for the journey. I think we searched for dolphins for about an hour, and he even started to lose a bit of confidence that we would see them. But then he saw a large group, and we could hang on to the boat. This was an experience to never forget. You can see the videos on my Pinterest or TikTok: filolifeline. At one point, we saw about 50 dolphins swimming under us and jumping above us.

Beautiful coral reef

After this experience, we also went swimming at a beautiful coral reef. This was amazingly beautiful, and honestly, it was the most beautiful coral we have seen in Bali. We saw very special fish and starfish. We even saw Nemo. All in all, it was a fantastic day and it was definitely worth traveling to the north of Bali to experience this. At the end of this day, we continued our journey to Uluwatu, you can read more about this in the next post…
