My boyfriend and I traveled through Indonesia for a month a year ago. Specifically, we traveled through Bali, Lombok, and the Komodo Islands. I spent a lot of time planning our itinerary. We intended to travel around so that we could make the most of our trip. We wanted to mix tourist spots with less touristy places. Now, a year later, we still look back on the most beautiful trip of our lives. We were able to see, do, and enjoy so much. Now, it’s time to share my dream itinerary with you!
Ubud: 3 Days
We started our journey in Ubud. We couldn’t have wished for a better start. We woke up overlooking the rice fields. If you want to know more about our days in Ubud, I would recommend reading my other blog post about Ubud.
Ubud is a great place to start your trip. You have plenty to do here and the views are beautiful, you won’t get bored here. We rented a scooter everywhere, but in ubud this is not only convenient, you can also drive the most beautiful routes here to, for example, the waterfalls or the tegalalang fields.
I will recommend you to go to sidemen for a day (or stay there too) We went by scooter for a day, but this was so beautiful that when returning to bali i would definitely want to stay in sidemen. Sidemen is also what they call the Ubud of 20 years ago in terms of tranquillity and less tourism.
Lovina: 2 Days
Lovina was not our plan, but we found out that you can do something super fun here. This was on our bucket list. So we travelled to northern Bali for the day and night. What we did? You can read about it in my other blog post.
Uluwatu: 4 Days
Uluwatu had a very different atmosphere to Ubud, but certainly no less fun. Uluwatu is really a surfer’s place, so if you want to surf you’re in the right place. You also have more choice here in terms of restaurants and nightlife than Ubud. I’ll tell you more about uluwatu in my blog post. 4 days is perfect to spend here.
Nusa Penida: 3 Days
Nature in Nusa Penida is beautiful! We were glad we hadn’t opted for a day tour. We don’t like a day tour anyway, as it makes you dependent on boat times and the taxi driver. I must add, though, that I didn’t find the evenings in Nusa Penida very lively. Secret Penida is recommended for a nice sit by the water, but otherwise there wasn’t much to do in the evenings. During the day we did have the most beautiful scooter rides here. However, all the famous spots are pretty far apart so I would get up early to get the most out of your day. I would definitely spend a night in Nusa Penida, but I would definitely choose Nusa Lembongan next time. This is where I hear good stories about and we didn’t go this time.
Gili Trawangan: 4 Days
Gili T was one of our favourite destinations! We heard many horror stories about the boat trip, but this went smoothly for us. Once you arrive, you really imagine yourself in another world. Truly the island feeling. We were in accommodation near the beach and spent every day here on the beach looking for sea turtles! So you don’t need a tour to see these beautiful sea creatures. You also have beautiful coral reefs here. We also went to Gili Meno for a day. Here it was much quieter and we rented a bed for the whole day at a beach club and took walks on the beach. I could stay longer on Gili and watch the sunsets every day at Pink Coco.
Kuta Lombok: 5 Days
Kuta on Lombok should not be confused with the town of Kuta on Bali. These are two different places. Many therefore say that Lombok is the Bali of 20 years ago. you really still have pristine nature here and is less developed than Bali. Lombok is therefore less touristy. You really notice this. People here are much more engaged with you and sometimes even want to have their photo taken with you. We only liked this and made a lot of contact with the locals as a result. We stayed here in a beautiful resort called Origin Lombok. What I can also recommend is the sunset at Bukit Merese hill. For 5 days, Lombok is definitely worth visiting as it is super different from Bali.
Pirate Island (Komodo Islands): 3 Days
Pirate Island was truly a paradise on earth. It is a private island in the middle of the komodo archipelago. You sleep with up to 50 people on a deserted (pirate) island. I have a whole blog post about this, so I would recommend you read it!
Canggu: 5 Days
Last but not least Canggu. You really can’t miss Canggu if you like trendy restaurants, fun beach clubs and fantastic nightlife. We were able to enjoy this extra because friends of ours came over. The four of us then rented a beautiful villa at Daba Villas in Canggu. Highly recommended, we would easily rent this house again! La Brisa, Finns beach club and eating at Penny Lane are hotspots not to be missed.
PS: Get your nails done at House of Orange. It is pricey but they are very talented.
